Reflections after FabCon

The biggest takeaway from FabCon? That no single announcement stood out.

What became clear afterward is something bigger: Fabric is transitioning from a platform where new features are constantly popping up, to something that actually feels cohesive.

‍Stefan Hedengren, who leads our Microsoft hub Yellow Elk Epic, brought three things home from Barcelona:

💠AI is no longer a standalone tool—Copilot and agents are becoming a natural part of how you build, understand, and troubleshoot solutions. But good AI still requires good data and well-built semantic models. That hasn't changed.

💠Fabric is moving closer to the business—With Fabric Apps and Planning, it’s no longer just about BI and data engineering, but about actually working within the platform.

💠The platform is maturing—Performance, governance, and cost control are receiving more focus. New capacity options like F0, along with better visibility into how compute is used, solve problems we encounter all the time. Add in the latest performance improvements, and the price-to-performance ratio is starting to look really interesting.

With a little perspective, one thing is clear: the value wasn't just in what was presented on stage; the conference happened just as much between the sessions. People wanted to compare how they solve the same problems, and the conversations never ended. We’re probably not exaggerating when we say that things are really heating up in the Fabric world right now. 🫎

And meeting a Power BI legend, Patrick LeBlanc from Guy in a Cube, wasn't too bad either.
